The Cellar

Fourteen seats at one candlelit table, below the dining room, surrounded by the wine. The room Cal Marsh calls his living room.

Candlelit private cellar dining room with a single long table, stone walls, and wine racks along one side
The room

The Cellar is the old seed store's root cellar, dug into the hill in 1931 and holding a steady sixty degrees ever since, which is exactly why the wine lives down here. One long walnut table runs the length of the room under a low brick ceiling, candlelit because it should be, with the bins of the wine list racked along the north wall close enough to read the labels from your seat.

Fourteen is the number the room wants. It will hold twenty for a standing tasting, but seated at one table, everyone can hear everyone, which is the entire point of the room. Dinners down here tend to run long, and we plan for that; the Cellar is never turned twice in a night.

This is the natural home for wine dinners, and Cal hosts The Long Table series here monthly. For private bookings he will build a pairing from the bins around you, including bottles that never make the printed list.

Best for: Wine dinners, anniversaries, small weddings, deals that deserve a good bottle.
