Home/Asphalt Shingles
Roofing ServicesAsphalt, chosen with open eyes.
Architectural asphalt is still the best cost per year of protection in the category, and in hail country the Class 4 impact-rated upgrade is the smartest line item on the quote.
What asphalt does well, and where it quits.
Architectural (laminated) shingles dominate Kansas roofs for good reasons: proven wind ratings, wide color ranges, straightforward repairs, and an installed cost nothing else touches. In our climate they deliver an honest 15 to 20 years; brochure numbers run higher, but Kansas sun and hail collect their tax early. We quote asphalt with that real number, not the brochure one.
The Class 4 conversation
Impact-rated Class 4 shingles use polymer-modified asphalt that flexes under hail instead of fracturing. On a replacement already in motion, the upgrade typically adds a single-digit percentage to the project (illustrative), and two things come back: fewer storm claims, and, with some carriers, an annual premium credit. Ask your agent about the credit; we print the spec sheet with every quote either way.
- Three-tab: we install it on request and for rental scopes, but its wind and hail numbers are the category's weakest, and we say so.
- Architectural: the default: layered profile, 110 to 130 mph wind ratings, the best value line on the quote.
- Class 4 impact-rated: the hail-alley pick. Same look as architectural, materially better storm math.
Every asphalt system installs over corrected ventilation, new flashing, and ice-and-water where Kansas code and common sense want it, with the same 15-year Overwatch workmanship warranty as our metal work. Compare the long math against metal on the comparison page.
