Craft No. 07 · The evening garden
Outdoor Lighting
Most landscape lighting is installed by the fixture count. Ours is designed by what you should see: the oak's canopy, the path's edge, the stone's texture, and almost never the fixture itself.
Bands are fictional and illustrative; this is a demonstration website.
The best evening gardens are mostly dark. Light everything and you get a car lot; light six things well and the garden becomes theater. We design lighting the way we design planting, in layers: a moonlight layer high in the canopy that pools soft light on the ground, a task layer that makes steps and thresholds safe, and an accent layer that picks out the two or three moments each view deserves. Everything else stays dark on purpose.
Warmth is non-negotiable. Every lamp we specify sits at 2700 Kelvin or below, the color of candlelight and porch light, because the blue-white floodlight look belongs somewhere else entirely. Fixtures are solid brass or copper, unlacquered, so they disappear into brown-green shadow within a season and never need repainting.
Craft shows in the aiming. We rough-set every fixture, then return after dark with you and aim each one by eye: down-lights shielded so the source never hits a window, path lights kept low and sparse, up-lights placed so the bark's texture carries the light. The difference between a lighting kit and a lit garden is that evening visit.
Systems run on modern low-voltage LED with astronomical timers that track the sunset through the year, zones you can dim from a phone, and a fixture count deliberately lower than the catalog suggested. Your neighbors should notice the garden looks beautiful at night, and never be able to say why.

Quarry Lane, Ashgrove
A working couple's back acre rebuilt around the hours they are actually home: a fire terrace, a masonry kitchen, and lighting tuned for eight o'clock.
Begin with a walk in the garden.
The first meeting is a morning on your property: no drawings, no obligation, just an honest read of the ground and how you want to live on it.
