The Journal

A garden almanac.

We keep our journal the way gardeners always have: by the season, not the news cycle. The standing calendar below is the studio's own; the longer notes underneath are where we show our reasoning.

Spring

March · April · May

  • Cut the meadow late, after the birds finish
  • First border edit and compost feed
  • Wake and audit the irrigation
  • Mulch thinly, only where it earns its place
Summer

June · July · August

  • The June edit: stake, thin, deadhead
  • Water deeply, rarely, at the root
  • Book autumn builds and plantings now
  • Watch the borders fail honestly; take notes
Autumn

September · October · November

  • The planting window: trees and shrubs first
  • Divide and rearrange the perennial borders
  • Bulbs by the hundred, daffodils by Halloween
  • Leave the seed heads standing for winter
Winter

December · January · February

  • Dormant pruning: orchards, then ornamentals
  • Walk the garden; winter tells the truth
  • Draw next year's plans by the fire
  • Stewardship enrollment opens in January

The Lookbook

A year of gardens, bound.

Our seasonal lookbook collects the year's gardens, plant palettes, and almanac notes in one quiet volume. Leave an address and we will send the current edition when it goes to print.

Demo form: nothing is sent or stored.

Noted, with thanks.

The autumn edition goes to print in September. On a live site, it would find its way to you.

Begin with a walk in the garden.

The first meeting is a morning on your property: no drawings, no obligation, just an honest read of the ground and how you want to live on it.
