Where we work

Gardens in Ashgrove.

Newer acreage east of town: level ground, open sun, and blank-slate properties where structure, screening, and shade must be built from nothing.

Ashgrove's builder acres are the opposite problem from the county's old farms: no grade, no stone, no canopy, and no privacy. What they offer instead is freedom. With nothing to work around, a master plan can set the garden's structure exactly where life wants it, and the growth rates on this deep, open ground are the best in the county.

Our Ashgrove work leans on fast structure: staggered evergreen screens that black out neighboring rooflines within three seasons, pergolas and orchard rows that put ceilings on the sky, and evening gardens built around fire, kitchens, and lighting, because many Ashgrove families are home after seven.

Quarry Lane, the evening garden in our portfolio, is an Ashgrove property, and its brief, design for eight o'clock, has become shorthand in our studio for how this neighborhood actually lives outside.

Every landscaper we talked to wanted to discuss our lawn. These people asked what time we get home from work. That question got them the job.

The first meeting is a morning on your property: no drawings, no obligation, just an honest read of the ground and how you want to live on it.
