Solmara / About
The firm
Built on one idea:no other side of the table.
Solmara Estates was founded in 2016 (fictionally, like everything here) on a conviction: a buyer of significant property deserves an advisor with nothing to sell, a diligence habit bordering on suspicion, and the manners to do it all quietly.
The story
Mara Voss spent nine years inside conventional luxury brokerage and kept meeting the same buyer: intelligent, well-advised in every other room of their life, and represented in the largest purchase of it by someone whose income rose when theirs left.
Solmara was the correction. No listings, ever. Fees structured so patience costs the advisor nothing. A verification file before every offer. And a care practice, because the firm kept getting calls months after closing and decided the calls were the business.
Ten years on, the firm remains deliberately small: four people, one coast, and a client list shorter than most teams' mailing lists.
Principles
Four rules,kept without exception.
- i.
One side of the table
We hold no listings and accept no seller mandates. Nobody at Solmara is ever paid more when a client pays more, and the fee letter says so in the first paragraph.
- ii.
Verify twice, love once
The file comes before the offer, always. Title, permits, water, soils, easements, history. The most valuable sentence we write is the occasional recommendation to walk away.
- iii.
Quiet is a strategy
Discretion is not a courtesy; it is a negotiating position. Unnamed approaches, confidential introductions, and purchases the neighborhood learns about from the moving vans.
- iv.
Care outlasts closing
The relationship is measured in years, not escrows. Most purchases become care engagements, and the estate never has to introduce itself to a stranger again.
The team
Four people,one coast.
Small on purpose. Every client knows every name.
-
Mara Voss
Founder & Principal Advisor
Eighteen illustrative years on the Santa Barbara coast, the last nine building Solmara around a single idea: a buyer deserves an advisor with nothing to sell. Leads every acquisition thesis personally.
-
Elias Serrano
Head of Verification
A former land-use paralegal who reads title exceptions for pleasure. Owns the verification file and the specialist bench, and has talked more clients out of houses than into them.
-
Rowan Ashby
Director of Estate Care
Ran private estates for two decades before joining Solmara. Believes a house should never know its owners are away, and keeps seven of them convinced.
-
Camille Laurent
Client Liaison
The single phone number clients actually use. Coordinates counsel, family offices, and the weekly brief, and guards the calendar so advisors can be unhurried on purpose.
